Geology of the Owen Sound Area in 5 Hikes @ the Library
Beth Gilhespy will tell Owen Sound's remarkable story of geological change through five spectacular hikes from her book Walking Through Time: Exploring the Geology of the Sydenham Bruce Trail Section. From ancient tropical seas and fossil-rich dolostone cliffs, to glacial landforms and karst landscapes, each hike reveals how the past 450 million years of geological history has shaped the area we know today. Books will be available for sale. Biography: Beth Gilhespy has been Chief Executive Officer of the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy since March 2024, following almost 5 years as Executive Director of the Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy and more than 14 years as CEO of the Bruce Trail Conservancy. Beth also served on the Niagara Escarpment Commission from 2017 to 2019. Prior to her work in land conservation, Beth worked for 15 years as a consultant specializing in the environmental impact of toxic chemicals. She holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in physical geography and geology from the University of Guelph. She is an avid hiker and traveller, with a passion for landscapes, and has just completed her third book on the geology of the Niagara Escarpment.
